Frequently asked questions

How is GPA calculated?

Multiply each course's grade points by its number of credits to get quality points, add those up across all courses, then divide by the total number of credits. Heavier courses count more, which is why it is called a weighted average.

What grade points are used on a 4.0 scale?

An A is 4.0, A- is 3.7, B+ is 3.3, B is 3.0 and so on down to F at 0.0. Schools vary slightly, but this calculator uses the common plus and minus scale shown in the grade dropdown.

What counts as a good GPA?

On a 4.0 scale, 3.5 and above is usually considered strong, 3.0 is solid, and many programmes set a minimum of 2.0 to remain in good standing. Requirements differ by school and course, so check your own guidelines.
